Who We Are
Gasconade County Special Services (GCSS) was formed under the Senate Bill 40 legislation. Senate Bill 40 is a bill enacted by the 75th General Assembly in 1969, enabling county voters to establish a local property tax to pay for services for people with developmental disabilities. Although that legislation has been amended several times, it is still often referred to as “Senate Bill 40”. Most counties have adopted a more user friendly name such as Special Services. Gasconade County Special Services opened their office in 1997.
Board of Directors
GCSS is guided by a nine-member Board of Directors who are appointed by the Gasconade County Commission to serve three-year terms. The Board of Directors consists of a cross-section of parents and family members of persons with developmental disabilities, educators, professionals, and other members of the community who act as advocates for our county’s citizens with developmental disabilities. The Board typically meets the third Monday of each month, 7:00 pm at the Gasconade County Special Services office, unless otherwise posted. Please call to confirm if you plan to attend.
